On arrival, reception staff will confirm your admission details in a private office to ensure your privacy and confidentiality are maintained. If your private health cover requires you to pay an excess or co-payment, this will be required on admission. Additionally, a credit card authority will be requested to assist you with the payment of any hospital accounts created during your admission. Aside from your hospital accounts, you may receive additional accounts from your treating Psychiatrist, Pathology, or Pharmacy services that may be claimable from Medicare or your health insurance fund. On your day of discharge please report to reception to discuss these costs and payment.
You will also be required to a sign some important documents confirming your acknowledgment of relevant New Farm Clinic policies as well as reinforcing our commitment to you in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors:
- Informed Financial Consent
- New Farm Clinic Patient Code of Conduct
If any of your address, contact or health fund details change during your stay please advise Reception as soon as possible to ensure that we continue to provide you with accurate and efficient administrative services.
Once staff have completed your admission paperwork Clinic staff will show you to your room and provide you with an orientation of the Clinic before handing over to Unit staff. For security and safety reasons this staff member will also collect all the medications and any prescriptions you have brought in for admission to hand over to Nursing Staff.
New Farm Clinic provides a high standard of accommodation, clinical needs will determine the accommodation you are allocated. You may be required to be moved to another room or shared room during your hospitalisation.
Unit Nursing Staff will then introduce themselves and explain routines relevant to your treatment and conduct a general admission assessment with you. This assessment in conjunction with your treating Psychiatrist will provide the basis for you admission care plan during your stay.
The Nurse Unit Manager will call in to see you the following day to ensure you have everything you need.
Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights
The Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights is available to everyone in the healthcare system. It allows patients, consumers, families, carers and providers to share an understanding of the rights of people receiving health care.
Patient Motor Vehicle Policy
Patients are not permitted to drive a vehicle whilst an inpatient. If your vehicle cannot be returned home by a relative or friend, please hand your keys to nursing staff who will secure them for the duration of your admission. You will be required to sign a form agreeing to these conditions (New Farm Clinic Patient Code of Conduct).
You are welcome to receive visitors; However, please ensure that your visitors do not visit during group program session times. Children must be directly supervised by visitors at all times. Visiting hours are 4:00pm to 8:00pm during the week and 10:00am to 8:00pm on weekends. Ex- patients are requested not to visit the Hospital for the first 4 weeks after discharge unless attending a day program or follow up outpatient appointments. After the 4 weeks, ex-patients can only visit inpatients during Hospital Visiting times only.
