April 2008

A multimillion dollar redevelopment of New Farm Clinic, which will see the hospital grow to a 90 bed facility offering a range of inpatient and day patient mental health services for the community, has been completed and is now open.

The new development adds a further 16 beds to New Farm Clinic and also incorporates a new state-of-the-art electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) suite, group rooms for the new day program centre and increased carparking.

New Farm Clinic is a specialist psychiatry facility which offers a range of inpatient and day patient programs that specialise in the treatment of mood disorders, eating disorders, psycho-geriatrics and general acute psychiatry.

The hospital is owned by Ramsay Health Care, which is one of the largest private hospital operators in Australia. The company is recognized for providing excellence in health care and is a leader in the private psychiatric sector.

Announcing the opening of the new facilities, New Farm Clinic CEO Sue Feeney said all the additional 16 beds which have just been completed are single rooms with ensuites and have an outlook to the landscaped courtyard.

“Particular attention was paid to the interior design of the facility to ensure it is modern but functional,” Ms Feeney said.

“This is a very exciting time for New Farm Clinic. The new development will assist the Clinic to the growing demand for acute psychiatric services.

“New Farm Clinic has had a strong reputation for the provision of high quality psychiatric services in Brisbane for over 30 years. This new facility will further enhance our ability to meet the needs of our patients into the future.

“Our team of psychiatrists, nurses and allied health professionals, are looking forward to being able to expand the services we provide with this new development for both inpatient and day patient services.”
